WOMEN VISIT HBU IN HOUSTON SATURDAY
Back on the winning track after an exciting road victory at Lamar Wednesday night, the Sam Houston women take on Houston Baptist Saturday at 4 p.m. at Sharp Gymnasium on the HBU campus. The Kats enter the contest with an 8-11 season mark and stand 4-5 in league action. Sam Houston will be looking for its fifth road win of the season. HBU is 8-10 for the year and 3-5 in league action.
SERIES RECORD
Saturday marks the eighth time the Bearkats and Huskies have met in women's basketball. Sam Houston holds a 4-3 edge in victories. The pair split last year with the Kats winning 74-67 in Huntsville and HBU victorious at home 66-61.
LAST TIME OUT - SAM HOUSTON 78, LAMAR 76
In a contest with 11 lead changes, Sam Houston defeated Lamar 78-76 Wednesday. Angela Beadle scored 20 and pulled down a season high 18 rebounds. Shernise Robertson and Kamry Orr added 17 and 14 points, respectively. Two free throws by Beadle in the final seconds provided the winning points.

“We found the joy in playing the game again down in Beaumont Wednesday. This team just keeps fighting. We got big games out of Angela Beadle, Shernise Robertson and Kamry Orr at Lamar and a good job by their supporting cast. We will need that same intensity and effort Saturday.”
SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE STATISTICS RANKINGS
For the second year in a row, Shernise Robertson is leading the Southland in scoring with an 18.1 average. Angela Beadle stands No. 2 in rebounding (9.8) and leads the league field goal percentage (.536) and blocks (39). She stands No. 10 in scoring (14.6). Robertson ranks 7th in assists (3.3).
BEARKAT PAIR MOVING UP IN CAREER STANDINGS
Senior center Angela Beadle now ranks No. 9 in Sam Houston women's career scoring (1,144 points). She needs 37 points pass Brittany Brooks (1,180 in 2007-10). Three more blocks and Beadle becomes the Kats' career leader. She currently has 160 blocks. Sequeena Thomas set the record (162) in 2010-13. Beadle ranks No. 3 in Kat career rebounds (852).
Senior guard Shernise Robertson has climbed to No. 18 in Sam Houston all-time scoring with 875 points. Her career average of 18.8 points per game is tied as the best in Bearkat women's annals. Sherry Pfister averaged 18.8 points from 1980 to 1983. Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols averaged 17.8 points from 1988 to 1989.
STRONG FRESHMAN CLASS
Four freshmen are making their mark for the Bearkat women this season. Two are starting. Guards Laurynn McGowen and Kamry Orr are the team's third and fourth leading scorers with averages of 7.5 and 7.4, respectively.
Freshmen post players 6-1 Ashleigh Cooper and 5-10 Lydia Baxter have been playing in reserve roles helping take some of the load inside off Angela Beadle.
TRANSFER STEPPING UP
Jasmine McCants, a 6-0 junior transfer from Alabama Southern Community College, is also seeing action at the post. She has pulled down 50 rebounds in her 18 appearances.
DAY'S THREE-POINTERS HELP SPARK WIN
Four three-point baskets by junior Morghen Day played a big role in Sam Houston's come-from-behind victory at Lamar victory Wednesday. Four Bearkats scored in double figures in the win.
HBU SCOUTING REPORT
The Huskies have three players averaging in double figures. Anna Strickland leads the team with a 13.3 average. Rachel Arthur and Monet Neal add 12.4 and 12.2 points per contest, respectively. The HBU women will be attempting to end a two-game losing skid after falling to Lamar 77-70 and Abilene Christian 77-60 in their last two outings. Both those games were on the road.
Saturday's Sam Houston versus HBU women's basketball game will be broadcast live on KHVL 104.9 FM. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
