FRISCO, Texas – Following a 2-0 week in conference play, Sam Houston State junior outside hitter Jordyn Vaughn was named the Southland Conference offensive player of the week in an announcement by league officials on Monday.
The honor is the first weekly honors of the season for the Bearkats.
Vaughn continued her outstanding play in her junior season this week, leading the Bearkats to a pair of wins over Nicholls and McNeese State. She averaged 5.00 kills per set for the week, hitting at a .244 clip and currently ranks third in the SLC with 3.45 kills per set.
The junior from Huntsville hit .375 in a sweep of Nicholls to start the week, scoring 15 kills with only three misfires on 32 swings and adding six digs. Two days later she flirted with a triple-double against McNeese State, leading the Kats to a 3-1 win over the Cowgirls. The junior finished with 20 kills in the four-set match while also finishing with 21 digs and eight blocks.
Vaughn and the Kats will look to extend its win streak this weekend with a pair of road matches at Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, starting Thursday in San Antonio against the Cardinals.
