HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Season ticket packages for the 2016-17 Sam Houston State men's and women's basketball season are now on sale by contacting the Bearkat ticket office at (936) 294-1729.
Ticket packages include games at Johnson Coliseum for 20 events total as well as Southland Conference doubleheaders. Season ticket holder benefits include access to the new Bearkat Champions Basketball Club at no additional cost for the 2016-17 season, priority on Southland Conference Tournament tickets, priority on postseason events at the Johnson Coliseum and NCAA Tournament tickets.
PRICING
Bearkat Champion Lower Reserved (Section E and F) are on sale for $200 with a $100 donation to the Bearkat champions Fund included in the cost. The donation helps support scholarships for Sam Houston student-athletes. Lower Corner Reserved (Section J and K) are available for $99 while General Admission seats are priced at $75.
BEARKATS PRIMED FOR SUCCESS IN 2016-17
After qualifying for four straight Southland Conference Tournaments during 2010-13, the Bearkat women's basketball program ascended a season ago, besting Nicholls, Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State in route to the finals.
Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols enters her 11th year with the program. The Bearkat alum (1989) is one win shy of her 125th with the program and is looking to guide the Kats to their first regular-season league title since 2013.
Meanwhile, the Sam Houston men's program returns all five starters and its top seven scorers from a season ago. The Bearkats were third in scoring defense in league games a season ago while returners Dakarai Henderson (15.6 ppg) and Aurimas Majauskas (13.9 ppg) finished in the top-15 in points per game in the Southland play at eighth and 14th respectively.
Bearkats men's head coach Jason Hooten enters his seventh year with the program, boasting a 116-85 record including a 65-39 win-loss mark in the Southland. Sam Houston is two years removed from a 15-3 mark in league play and has finished in the top-three in the conference each of the last three years.
