HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston State head coach K.C. Keeler has been named a finalist for the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, as announced by STATS on Tuesday afternoon.
The list includes at least one representative from all FCS conferences. The Southland is one of two leagues to boast two coaches in the final 15 as Keeler was joined by Central Arkansas' Steve Campbell as a finalist. Keeler's Bearkats and Campbell's Bears will square off head-to-head on Saturday in Huntsville for the outright Southland Conference title.
Keeler has had the Kats atop the STATS FCS national rankings since Oct. 12 with his team just one win away from completing the third unbeaten regular season in program history.
The third-year Bearkat head man is 32-9 at Sam Houston and captured his 200th career victory on Oct. 1 against Stephen F. Austin. He now holds a career mark of 206-86-1 in his 23rd year of coaching.
Only 75 other coaches have ever reached the milestone and just 14 are currently active coaches. He has now put up 13 10-win seasons and is the ninth-fastest coach to reach the 200-win mark in the history of college football, and also the 12th youngest to reach the plateau.
Keeler has also ascended into the top Southland's top 10 for victories by a league coach, ranking seventh, and is the only coach with fewer than five years in the conference on the list.
STATS will present the esteemed Robinson Award at the national awards banquet on the eve f the NCAA Division I FCS Championship Game on Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas.
