HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Sam Houston State Bearkat coaching staff took advantage of its first-round playoff bye, giving back to the Huntsville community by spending time volunteering at the Good Shepard Mission.
Coach K.C. Keeler and the rest of the coaching staff took time away from playoff preparation on Tuesday afternoon and made their way over to the mission where they helped rebuild a fence, trimmed trees, cleaned out a cluttered lot, boxed up canned goods and performed other yard maintenance.
The Good Shepard Mission is a local mission who helps feed, clothe, shelter and counsel those less fortunate in the Huntsville community. They serve more than 2,000 hot meals each month and give groceries to over 650 households monthly, a group that includes well over 500 children.
They also give out more than 6,500 articles of clothing, shoes, coats and blankets each month while also getting use out of more than 1,000 beds on a monthly basis.
