
Giddens Named Academic All-District

Full CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Redshirt P.J. Giddens was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 team on Thursday in an announcement made by the organization.
It is the first such honor for Giddens who holds a 3.76 GPA in General Business. Giddens, who is a junior in the classroom, also earned academic all-Southland Conference honors a year ago.
All NCAA Division I football players from universities in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming who have compiled an overall grade point average of 3.30 on a 4-point scale are eligible for nomination. The district includes teams from the Big 12, Southeastern, American Athletic, Conference USA, Sun Belt, Big Sky and Southland Conference.
Sports information directors from universities in the district vote for the team members.
Each of the 24 members of the Academic All-District 7 squad now will be included on the ballot for 2016 Academic All-America honors.
Giddens has played in all eight of the Kats' games this season after seeing action in 14 last year. He has registered 11 tackles on the year and forced a fumble in Sam Houston's rout of Stephen F. Austin earlier this season. He also came up with a big play in the Bearkats' recent 66-17 win over Texas Southern on Saturday, blocking a punt to set up Alfonzo McMillian's
He is the fifth-ever Bearkat football player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and the first since Josh Reynolds a year ago. He is the 10th Bearkat among any sport to earn a spot on his/her sport's all-district team.
