HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston State volleyball has been particularly dominant at home this season. Playing in the recently-renovated Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum for the first time this season on senior day, nothing would change.
The Bearkats bounced the Privateers, 3-0 (26-24, 25-9, 25-13) improving to 15-12 overall and 9-5 in Southland Conference action. The win was Sam Houston's seventh consecutive at home and ran the Kats win streak to four straight overall with a pair of road matches remaining to close the regular season.
Sam Houston honored seniors Shelby Genung, Michelle Griffith, Breanna Homer and Claire Kilpatrick alongside redshirt junior Sarah Sherman, who will graduate early, prior to the game. The Kats return to action on Thursday at Central Arkansas. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
SET 1
Sam Houston fell behind 3-0 early but battled back, going toe to toe with Privateers during the middle stages. With the match tied at 7-7, the Bearkats rattled off four straight to take an 11-7 advantage and force a New Orleans timeout. The Kats extended the lead to five at 14-9, courtesy of three straight kills, coming from Shelby Genung, Sarah Sherman and Jordyn Vaughn. UNO knotted the match at 24-24 but the Kats took the final two points, overcoming a .094 attack percentage.
SET 2
The Bearkats settled in during the second set, jumping out to a 4-0 advantage and 7-2 edge on a Claire Kilpatrick service ace. Sam Houston pushed the lead to 11-2 with seven straight points, forcing a UNO timeout. Sarah Sherman recorded four kills, accounting for four of the first five points. Sam Houston won nine of the final 11 points in route to the largest-set victory of the season at 25-9. The Kats strung together a .483 attack percentage, highlighted by seven Sherman kills while limiting the Privateers to a .069 clip.
SET 3
Sam Houston set the tone again early, taking a 3-0 lead before pushing it to five at 8-3 on a Taylor Cunningham kill. The Kats strung together six of seven points to extend the lead to 11-4 capped by a block from Griffith and Cunningham. The Privateers kept things interesting, cutting their deficit to four at 15-11 but Sam Houston countered with five straight, helping by three straight UNO attack errors. Jordyn Vaughn recorded two straight service aces to close the match at 25-13.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Sam Houston's Sarah Sherman recorded her third double-digit kill match in four games, tallying 13 total including seven in the second set to power Sam Houston to a 16-point victory in the fame. The redshirt junior was just one shy of her career high (14), coming in Tuesday's 3-1 win against Stephen F. Austin.

After notching just a .094 attack percentage in the opening frame, and falling behind 3-0 in the set, Sam Houston reversed its fortunes in the final two sets. The Bearkats caught fire, boasting a .483 attack percentage in the second set, its most in 19 matches, dating to the fifth set against Northwestern State.
