Coming off the program's second Southland Conference Tournament championship appearance and first 10-win season, the Sam Houston State soccer team returns to play, announcing its five-match spring slate including a pair at Pritchett Field.
“We're excited to get back out and play a formidable spring schedule,” ninth-year head coach Tom Brown said. “I think there's a sense of confidence coming off last season with what we were able to do in the Southland Conference Tournament. It will be good to test our skills against some other competition.”
The Bearkats welcome UTSA to Pritchett for the opener on Sunday at 2 p.m. During the fall, the Kats and Roadrunners played a highly-contested overtime match that saw outgoing senior Mariah Titus lift a game-winner in the 96th minute.
Sam Houston will hit the road for three straight beginning March 4 at 5 p.m. against the Houston Dash Reserves. On April 2, the Kats head to Lamar for a 4 p.m. match. In the fall, Sam Houston's Maddy Panozzo netted the golden goal 50 seconds into the second half in a 1-0 Bearkats victory.
The Bearkats play their final road match on April at Houston Baptist. The two league foes will play an all-day 7-on-7 tournament. Sam Houston edged Houston Baptist 2-0 in the Southland Tournament to advance to the league championship, avenging a 1-0 regular-season loss.
The spring finale pits the Kats back at Pritchett Field against Houston. First touch is scheduled for 12 p.m. and will be the last opportunity for fans to see the squad in action leading up to the fall campaign.
