Led by third baseman Breanna Homer who went 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, Sam Houston posted a season high 15 hits in a 7-0 shutout of Texas Southern at the Softball Complex Tuesday night.
Freshman pitcher Lindsey McLeod picked up her second collegiate shutout and pitched the Kats' fourth complete game in the circle. She struck out 11 of the 31 Tiger batters she faced, giving up only five hits.
Catcher Katie Doerre went 3-for-4 and three Bearkats (second baseman Dani Allen, shortstop Tiffany Castillo and left fielder Ashley Kopps) each accounted for a pair of hits.
“We've been hitting the ball well lately,” Sam Houston head coach Bob Brock. “We got after it at the plate tonight and got a strong pitching performance from Lindsey.”
Sam Houston upped its record to 8-21 for the year. The Bearkats are schedule to play host to Louisiana-Monroe Wednesday at 3 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
Castillo opened the scoring with a first inning RBI single. The Kats added a second tally in the third as third baseman Homer brought in a run with a shot up the middle.
The flood gates opened in four-run fourth inning as Homer and Castillo each added to their totals with two RBI singles. Sam Houston added their final run on a double by Doerre.
Following Wednesday's doubleheader, Sam Houston will meet Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference weekend series Friday and Saturday.
