
Aurimas Majauskas Earns Academic Honor

Aurimas Majauskas is one of 10 men's basketball players who have been named as Academic All-Southland Conference selections.
The 6-8 junior center from Marijampole, Lithuania, holds a 3.23 overall grade point average as an international business major. A Dean's List student each of his five semesters at Sam Houston, Majauskas posted a 3.40 semester grade point average during the 2015 fall semester.
The academic all-league selection is the latest in a host of post-season honors after his junior season in which he helped lead the Bearkats to 18 victories and third consecutive berths in both the CollegeInsider.Com post-season tournament and the semifinals of the Southland tournament in Katy.
Most recently Majauskas was named as a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) second team all-region selection. He also was voted second-team All-Southland Conference honors.
Majauskas averaged 13.9 points and 5.4 rebound per game in Southland Conference play. The center scored in double figures in 24 games and pulled down double figure rebounds five times. He led the squad in scoring in 14 contests. He finished the second ranked No. 6 in the Southland in field goal accuracy.

Majauskas stands as the 22nd Sam Houston men's basketball player to earn Academic All-Southland Conference honors. His selection marks the 42nd time a Bearkat has been named to the honor squad.
The Academic All-Southland Conference team is selected by vote of the league's head men's basketball coaches, academic coordinators and sports information directors. Only players that have been playing for their institution for more than one year who are starters or frontline reserves and possess a 3.00 overall grade point average are eligible for nomination.
Sam Houston's 17 sports squads boast an outstanding record of academic success as well as championship results on the field and in the arena. The Bearkats produced a department high overall grade point average of 3.22 for the more than 400 Sam Houston student-athletes during the 2015 fall semester.
