Angela Beadle of Sam Houston has been voted as one of ten student-athletes named to the 2016 Academic All-Southland Conference women's basketball honor squad.
The 6-3 center from Austin Crockett High School owns a 3.75 overall grade point average as a candidate for a Master's degree in Health. She already has received her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology.
Earning Academic All-Southland honors for the second time in her career, Beadle stands as one of 20 Sam Houston women's basketball players who have been selected for the award a total of 41 times. Beadle was an Academic All-Southland player following her junior season in 2014.
The honor is the fourth major award for the graduate student after her 2015-16 season. She was a second team All-Southland selection and was named both all-tournament and tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Bearkat women to a runner-up finish at the Southland event.
Beadle averaged 20.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in Sam Houston's four-game road to the championship in Katy. She became only the second player from a runner-up finisher to earn the honor in the 30-year history of the tournament.
Beadle's 514 points this season rank as the seventh highest single season total in Kat history. Her 63 blocked shots and 341 boards this year stand, respectively, as the second and sixth all-time yearly totals.
For her career, Beadle finished as Sam Houston's fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,383 points and second career rebound leader with 1,025 boards. She also stands No. 1 in SHSU career blocks (184) and No. 2 all-time in field goal accuracy (.499)

The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
Sam Houston's 17 sports squads boast an outstanding record of academic success as well as championship results on the field and in the arena. The Bearkats produced a department high overall grade point average of 3.22 for the more than 400 Sam Houston student-athletes during the 2015 fall semester.
