Senior Day To Honor Kat Quartet

Four seniors will be appearing in their final home game for the Bearkat women's basketball team Saturday when Sam Houston plays host to Stephen F. Austin at 4:35 p.m. at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
Both the Kats and the Lumberjacks are wrapping up regular season action Saturday. A victory over SFA would assure the Sam women of their spot in the Southland Conference Tournament in Katy next week.
Three of the four seniors who will be honored in a special ceremony just before tip-off were members of the Bearkats' first Southland Conference championship team in 2013. Two are completing their careers ranked among the university's top 20 all-time leading scorers.
“This is just a great senior class,” Sam Houston head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols said. “Each girl has meant so much to this program during their time here.”
The four seniors are Jasmin Anderson, Amanda Barnes, Angela Beadle and Shernise Robertson.
A 5-7 guard from Shreveport, Louisiana, Anderson is appearing in her 64th game as a Bearkat Saturday. She played in 15 games as a true freshman on the 2013 championship squad and has appeared in 23 contest this year for the Kats. A kinesiology major, Anderson owns a 3.04 overall grade point average.
Barnes, a 5-5 guard from Arlington, has played in 93 games for the Sam Houston women, starting 37 times. She owns career totals of 385 points, 181 assists, 71 three point baskets and 53 steals and has averaged 16.2 minutes per game. A mass communications major, Barnes has produced a 3.43 overall grade point average.
Beadle, a 6-3 center from Austin, ranks as the program's sixth all-time leading scorer with 1,282 points. She also ranks No. 1 in block shots with 177 and third in career rebounds with 961. As a starter on the 2013 championship team, she earned Southland All-Tournament honors.
Beadle was a first-team All-Southland performer in 2014. An Academic All-Southland performer as well, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and owns a 3.75 GPA as a Master candidate in Health.
Robertson joined the Sam Houston program as a transfer from Tyler Junior College last year. She is leading the Southland Conference in scoring for the second year in a row. Last week she became the 16th Bearkat woman to crack the 1,000-point career mark. She stands as the fastest to 1,000 points with her 1,022 points coming in only two seasons. Her career average of 18.9 points per game is a school record.
