McNeese State defeated Sam Houston 6-1 in a Southland Conference women's tennis match Saturday at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center Lake Charles, La.

Maddie Mortimore picked up the Bearkats' only victory in a 6-1 6-2 win at the number five singles. Fabienne Gettwart at number one singles and Ema Barkovic at number three went to three sets before falling. Carrie Casey lost at number two in a super tiebreaker after splitting sets with the match already clinched.

The Bearkats now stand 6-6 for the season and 1-3 in league action. McNeese is undefeated 3-0 in Southland play. The Cowgirls own a 10-4 record for the year.
