
Major marks set at Carl Knight Invitational

With several Sam Houston State track and field athletes competing across the state in Abilene, the Bearkats' heptathletes and decathletes posted a strong showing in Nacogdoches as part of Stephen F. Austin's Skechers Carl Knight Invitational from Thursday through Saturday.
Sophomore Courtney Lord earned the top spot in the heptathlon behind a personal-best 5,081 points. The Buda native secured lifetime bests in the 200 meters (25.78), 800 meters (2:30.78), 100-meter hurdles (14.88) and javelin throw (114 feet).
Lord finished first in the long jump (18 feet, 11 ¾ inches), second in the javelin (114 feet), second in the high jump (5 feet, 7 inches), third in the 200 meters (25.78) and third in the 800 meters (2:30.78).
Teammate Frances Porter also notched a personal best in a 4,701-point third-place finish. The senior added personal records in the javelin (114 feet), long jump (18 feet, 11 ¾ inches), high jump (5 feet, 7 inches) and 200 meters (25.78).
The Georgetown product took first in the 100-meter hurdles, second in the 800 meters as well as fifth in the javelin in highlight a career day at the Fletcher Garner Track.
Nicole Jenrette grabbed seventh in the heptathlon at 4,304 points highlighted by a third-place finisher in the shot put (36 feet, 3 inches), fourth-place distance in the javelin (109 feet, 6 inches) and sixth-place mark in the 800 meters (2:50.48).
On the men's side, the tandem of freshman Dylan Elliott and senior Jonathan Andrews finished fifth and sixth respectively. Elliott, competing in his first career decathlon, totaled 6,290 points while Andrews set a lifetime best and finishing with 6,201.
Elliott logged personal records in the shot put (35 feet, 7 ¾ inches), pole vault (13 feet, 1 ½ inches), 100 meters (11.55) and 400 meters (53.10). The Franklin product took third in the long jump, fourth in the 110-meter hurdles as well as fifth in the javelin and discus.
Meanwhile, Andrews took fourth in the pole vault (13 feet, 1 ½ inches), fourth in the high jump (6 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and fifth in the 1,500 meters (4:56.16). The Cedar Park native also posted three sixth-place results in the discus (98 feet, 11 inches), javelin (154 feet, 1 inch), and long jump (21 feet, 6 ¼ inches).
In separate action, John Bounds finished 12th with a personal best in the 1,500-meter run (4:01.63). The result tied his best career place finish in the event, coming three seasons ago at the SHSU Quadrangle & Combined Events.
Logan Terry also took part in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, setting a lifetime best at 9:24.45 in a seventh-place finisher. The senior bested his previous mark by more than three seconds, which came in a sixth-place finisher in the outdoor championships last year.
