
Volleyball Runs Spring Record to 6-2

The Sam Houston volleyball team ran its record in spring to 6-2 with an outstanding performance at the F.A.S.T. Complex in Houston Saturday.
The Bearkats opened with a 30-28 25-17 loss to Rice, but bounced back for victories over Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU and Texas Southern. The Kats defeated the Ragin' Cajuns 22-25 25-17 15-9, the Tigers 25-21 13-25 15-9 and the Tigers 25-21 25-22
“We played well in all facets of the game,” Sam Houston head coach Brenda Gray said. “It was our serving and passing that were the two skills that helped us the most.”
Blocking leaders at the event included Amanda Gooch and Taylor Cunningham. Jordyn Vaughn, Brooke White, Cunningham and Shelby Genung led the team in kills. Genung, Claire Kilpatrick and White were the top servers. Dig leaders included Kilpatrick, Natalie Nevlud, Cunningham and Vaughn. Setters Michelle Griffith and Jaclyn Ward led the team in assists
“The team competed well throughout the day,” Gray said. “We overcame an early loss to Rice to finish the day with three straight wins. The girls continue to show growth both individually and as a team.”
Sam Houston will complete its spring schedule with a tournament at Stephen F. Austin this Saturday that will feature play against several Southland Conference opponents.
