Sam Houston celebrates its fourth annual “Night of Champions” Sunday, May 1 at the James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center.
The 5:30 p.m. event salutes the more than 400 student-athletes who represent the University competing in 17 sports at the NCAA Division I level.
“Night of Champions” features an ESPY awards show format with a variety of video presentations honoring Sam Houston's athletic achievements during the past year.
Special presentations will honor Sam Houston's 2016 Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field teams, who both brought home the Conference Championship earlier this year, as well as other teams and individual student-athletes for their accomplishments on their field of play and in the classroom.
Student-athletes to be recognized include four All-America award winners, 17 All-Southland Conference first team selections, five others who earned special league awards, the 19 “Most Valuable” athletes and the 2015-2016 Bearkat seniors.
Doors at the Performing Arts Center open at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. A reception will follow the event. For more information about tickets ($75 each), email events@shsu.edu or call (936) 294-4758.”
