
Former Kat Honored In Saskatchewan

Former Sam Houston All-America and All-Southland Conference wide receiver Matt Dominguez has been elected to the Saskatchewan Roughrider Plaza of Honor.
Dominguez and Ivan Gutfriend, long time athletic therapist for the Canadian Football League (CFL) professional team, will be honored at a special dinner Friday September 16. The Plaza of Honor Dinner presented by SaskTel has inducted 120 individuals who have made major contributions to the proud tradition of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club.
The Roughriders won the CFL's Grey Club championship in 1966, 1989 and 2007.
Dominguez was a four-year starter for the Bearkats from 1997 to 2000, earning All-Southland Conference honorable mention honors as a freshman and first team all-league recognition each of the next three seasons. He was named as an All-American wide receiver his final year. He set eight Sam Houston school records and five Southland Conference marks.
The Georgetown, Texas, native stands as Sam Houston's all-time leading receiver with 211 catches for 3,273 career yards and 27 touchdowns. Dominguez was elected to Sam Houston's athletic Hall of Honor in 2006.
Dominguez played for the Denver Broncos in 2001, then moved to Regina Saskatchewan to play for the Roughriders in May, 2003. He played in 59 games during his six seasons with the Green and White becoming a top notch CFL receiver and fan favorite. In 2006, Matt was named a West Division All-Star and in 2007 he was part of the Grey Cup Championship Team.
The wide receiver finished his CFL career with 250 receptions for 3,741 yards and 19 touchdowns. He played in six playoff games totaling 27 receptions for 440 yards and three touchdowns
Dominguez is now the Owner/Broker for Better Homes and Gardens Prairieview in Regina, Saskatchewan. He and his wife Jennifer, who met at Sam Houston State University, now have three children, Matthew, Victoria and Marcel.
