
Justin Jenkins Honored as 2015 Outdoor MVP

Justin Jenkins and Paula Smith from the Bearkat men's and women's teams were recognized as 2015 outdoor track and field “Most Valuable Athletes” during Sam Houston's fourth annual “Night of Champions” celebration Sunday night at the James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center.
Jenkins and Smith were among four award recipients were honored for their accomplishments during the 2015 season since the baseball, softball and women's and men's outdoor track and field seasons still are on-going. The other three honors came for accomplishments this spring.
Jenkins, a Dickinson High School product, was the Southland champion in the 100 meter dash and the 4x100 relay and runner-up in the 200 meters at the 2015 outdoor meet.
Smith, a Waco Connally product), ran the anchor leg on the Bearkats' 2015 4x400 meter championship relay and was runner-up in the 200 meters for the 2015 Bearkat outdoor squad.
Andrew Godail (baseball) and Sarah Allison Johnson (softball) also were so honored.
Godail, a senior pitcher from The Woodlands, posted a 2.30 earned run average for the Bearkat baseball team that reached the championship finals of the 2015 Southland Conference tournament in Sugar Land.
Allison, a senior from Lamar High School in Houston, started all 47 games for the 2015 softball team at shortstop and in the outfield. She completed her career as the Kats' second all-time home run leader with 31 in her career.
