
Henderson, Majauskas Named MVPs

Dakarai Henderson and Aurimas Majauskas received honors as co-MVPs for the 2016 men's basketball team.
Both were All-Southland Conference selections after leading Sam Houston to 18 victories, third consecutive appearances in both the Southland tournament semifinals and the CollegeInsider.com post-season event and the Kats' 10th top three league finish in the past 12 years.
Henderson, a junior guard from Pearland / Dawson, was the Bearkats' top three-point shooter, ranking among the Southland's leaders. Majauskas, a junior center from Mariajampole, Lithuania, led the Bearkats in rebounding and field goal percentage. Both earned All-Southland Conference honors after leading the Kats in scoring for the season
The pair were among seven winter sports student-athletes were recognized as their team's “Most Valuable Players” during Sam Houston's fourth annual “Night of Champions” celebration Sunday night at the James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center.Janine Kuwahara was named as “Most Valuable Player” for the nationally-ranked women's bowling team. The junior from Davao City, Mindanao in the Philippines earned All-America second team honors after helping lead the Bearkats to their fifth NCAA championships appearance in the program's six seasons.
The two juniors each averaged 14.2 points for the year. Henderson, a guard from Pearland / Dawson, was the team's top three-point shooter. Majauskas, a center from Marijampole, Lithuania, led the squad in rebounds and field goal percentage.
Angela Beadle and Shernise Robertson were named as co-MVPs for the 2016 women's basketball team that reached the Southland Conference tournament championship game.
The two seniors each received all-league honors. Beadle, a center from Austin / Crockett, won Southland Tournament MVP honors. Robertson, a guard from Cypress / Cy Falls, led the league in scoring for the second season in a row.
Jeffrey Moore and Danielle Demas were named as the men's and women's indoor track and field “Most Valuable Athletes.”
Demas, a senior from Cypress Creek, is one of only four Bearkat women ever to compete in the NCAA indoor championships. She earned honors as Southland Conference indoor women's athlete of the year after winning two gold medals and a silver for the league champions.
Moore, a sophomore from Carrollton / Newman Smith, was the men's indoor 800 meters and mile run winner.
