
Corey Avery Named To Watch List

Corey Avery of Sam Houston has been named to AthlonSports.com's list of the top 10 FCS running backs for the upcoming 2016 season.
“With speed and elusiveness, Avery stood out in his first season at Sam Houston,” Athlon Sports said.
The Dallas / Carter High School product earned first team All-Southland Conference honors as a sophomore last season after averaging 98.9 yards per game and 7.6 yards per carry. His 1,483 rushing yards in 15 games stands at the third highest single season total in Sam Houston's 100 years of football. He ranked second in the Southland in both rushing and scoring (15 touchdowns for 108 points).
Avery transferred to Sam Houston from Kansas where he rushed for 631 yards as a freshman. He totaled more than 100 yards rushing in six games during the 2015 season including a best game of 197 yards in the Kats' NCAA quarterfinal victory over Colgate.

Sam Houston begins the 2016 football schedule Saturday September 3 when the Bearkats play host to Oklahoma Panhandle State at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.
The Kats play four other home games in Huntsville, facing Abilene Christian Oct. 15, Texas Southern Oct. 29, McNeese State Nov. 5 and Central Arkansas Nov. 19. Sam Houston takes on Stephen F. Austin in the 91st “Battle of the Piney Woods” presented by H-E-B at NRG Stadium in Houston on Saturday, Oct. 1.
