Kats fall in final non-conference match

The Sam Houston State soccer team could not slow down Utah State's potent offense, dropping the weekend finale 8-0 in Logan, Utah, on Sunday afternoon.

All eight Utah State (4-3-0) goals came in the first half including three in a span of two minutes between the 35th minute and the 37th minute. The Aggies' Alecia Robinson recorded a hat trick, all coming in the final 11 minutes of the opening frame.

In the second half, Sam Houston (0-8-0) turned to goalkeeper Bailey Swain who held her opponent scoreless while logging four saves. Offensively, Sam Houston managed 14 shots, with 10 coming in the opening half, but the Bearkats were ultimately held scoreless for a fifth straight.

Midfielder Beryl Smith led Sam Houston with three shots while Kaylee Davis and Allie Johnson each took two. The Kats took just two corner kicks to Utah State's 10.

Sam Houston opens Southland Conference play on Friday, visiting Central Arkansas for its third consecutive out-of-state match. The site played host to the league tournament a year ago, the venue where the Kats advantaged to the title match.
