Sam Houston State volleyball opened the TCU Horned Frog Invitational on Thursday night, falling 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 19-25) to the hosts in the first of three matches during the final non-conference weekend.
Jordyn Vaughn led the Bearkats (6-5) with 12 kills while Michelle Griffith earned 27 assists and Claire Kilpatrick notched 10 digs. The Kats held their own in the first set, forcing 14 ties while the squad's exchanged the lead four times.
TCU (6-2) used a .438 second-set attack percentage and .407 mark in the final frame to put away Sam Houston. The Frogs led throughout the duration of the second set. The Kats took an early 6-3 lead in the third but TCU would rally to take nine of 11 points and an eventual 14-10 lead.
Sam Houston returns to action on Friday at 11 a.m. against SMU. The team will play its final match of the week afterwards, facing off against eighth-ranked North Carolina at 3 p.m.
