
By the Numbers: 500th win, record setters

Each week this season, we'll take a look at the numbers you need to know following Sam Houston State football's most recent matchup. On Saturday, the Bearkats powered by Lamar, 44-31, thanks to a strong first half and strong impressions in all facets of the game.
· Saturday's win marked the 500th in program lore, improving Sam Houston's all-time mark to 500-460-36. The Bearkats are now three wins shy of capturing their 200th NCAA Division I victory and will play their 1,000th game in team history against Abilene Christian on Oct. 15.
· With 136 rushing yards on Saturday, running back Corey Avery moved eight spots up Sam Houston's all-time career rushing list with 1,689. The junior ranks No. 18 in team lore and needs just 84 yards to move into the top 15.
· Wide receiver Yedidiah Louis remained at No. 6 in team lore in career receptions but moved closer to fifth with 113 yards on Saturday. The junior has 1,959 to his name and is just 53 yards away from moving into sole possession of fifth, currently held by Jarod Fuller (2,011).
· Place kicker Luc Swimberghe went a perfect 6 for 6 on extra points Saturday, upping his program-best career PATs to 188. The senior also moved up to 281 career kicking points, ranking second in team history, as he continues to close the gap with all-time leader Miguel Antonio (324).
· With 4 ½ tackles for loss against Lamar, defensive end P.J. Hall raised his career mark and program best to 57 ½. The junior continues to widen the gap with Andre Finley, who amassed 49 during 1986-89.
· Saturday marked the 198th career victory for third-year Sam Houston head coach K.C. Keeler. Only 75 Division I coaches have ever reached the 200-win plateau including 14 active coaches.
· Sam Houston has now won six of the last seven games dating to 2011 following the bye week. The Bearkats dropped a 49-46 result a year ago to Lamar, snapping a six-game win streak in that department, but picked back up on Saturday.
· Through the third week of the season, Sam Houston leads the FCS with 633 yards per game. The Bearkats are second in passing offense (358.5 yards per game) and third in scoring offense (51.5). Quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe is third nationally in passing yards per game (333) while P.J. Hall is fourth in tackles for loss per game (2.8).
· One season ago against Sam Houston, Lamar running back Kade Harrington rushed for 230 yards, two touchdowns, a long of 73 and an average of 9.6 per rush. This year, the Kats held Harrington to 76 yards on 25 carries, a long of 14 and an average of 3.0 per rush.
· Running back Corey Avery has rushed for 100-plus yards in seven of his last 10 games. Saturday's 113 receiving yards for Yedidiah Louis marked the fourth 100-plus receiving performance in his last six games. Quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe has passed for 300-plus yards in four of his last five games including a pair in the playoffs a season ago.
