HUNTSVILLE – After spending the first nearly month of its season on the road, the Sam Houston State volleyball program makes its home debut on Tuesday.
The Bearkats take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m. in the Southland Conference opener. With continuing construction at Johnson Coliseum, the game will be played at the Health & Kinesiology Center (HKC) on campus. Admission is free for all attendees.
Sam Houston (6-7) is looking to rebound after a challenging weekend at the TCU Horned Frog Invitational. There, the squad took on eighth-ranked North Carolina, SMU and TCU. During the non-conference slate, Sam Houston won Tulane's Sugar Bowl tournament and took two of three at the Rice Owl Invitational.
The Kats enter Southland play ranked second in assists (11.51 per set), third in kills (12.22 per set) and third in digs (16.10 per set). The Kats also rank 24th nationally with 37.37 team attacks per set.
Individually, Brooke White and Jordyn Vaughn are tied for third in the league with 3.27 kills per set while Michelle Griffith is third in assists per set with 8.24. Vaughn was also named the MVP at the Sugar Bowl Invitational.
Sam Houston will play three of its next four matches at home. The squad will visit Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 1 p.m. before returning to Huntsville to face Nicholls on Sept. 29 (6:30 p.m.) and McNeese on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. For the latest, follow @BearkatsVB on Twitter or visit GoBearkats.com.
