Sam Houston State volleyball overcome a one-set deficit, winning the final two games (11-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 15-11) to claim its third straight match, defeating UT Rio Grande Valley 3-2 on Saturday morning at Tulane's Green Wave Classic.
The Bearkats hit .316 in a decisive fourth set victory to improve to 3-2 on the season. UTRGV (3-2) was held to a .061 attack percentage in the fourth and a minimal .042 in the final frame. Jordyn Vaughn continued her impressive early season notching a team-leading 15 kills.
Four Sam Houston players recorded double-digit digs led by Michelle Griffith with 15. Vaughn followed suit with 14 while Brooke White added 13 and Breanna Homer finished with 11. With blocks a major focus in the preseason, the Kats totaled eight including a season-high seven assisted blocks from Taylor Cunningham.
Griffith boasted a season-high 39 assists, a whopping nine more than her next best mark of 30 against UT Arlington during the opening weekend. The Bearkats will look to continue their momentum in the night cap, taking on host Tulane at 7 p.m.
