LAST TIME OUT
Sam Houston was away from competition last weekend but offered up a strong showing in its first meet of 2017 with the men and women both besting 12 other teams to capture first place at the Aggie Team Invitational.
Sam Houston's Chris Jefferson began his sophomore campaign in style, running 6.79 to claim the 60-meters title and 21.35 in the 200-meter dash for his second top spot. Jeffrey Moore also paced action in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.72.
Kalvin Singletary also impressed in the opener, notching a second-place weight throw finisher as the senior set a new PR with a mark of 63 feet, 1 ½ inches. His followed that feat with a third-place result in the shot put to the tune of 53 feet, 5 ½ inches.
On the field side, Tyler Adams, the Southland's runner-up in the high jump a season ago, continued his dominance in the event. His leap of 6 feet, 10 ¼ inches was good enough for first place and followed up his first-place, meet-record height a season ago.
Camry Grigsby notched a pair of top spots including a mark of 2:17.49 to pace action in the 800-meter finals. The junior also anchored the 4x400-meter championship squad, alongside Kodii Church, Briana McCall and Jasmine Lewis with a time of 3:52.30.
Kristine Hanks also began her junior campaign on a strong foot, capturing first-place in the shot put at 49 feet, ¼ inches while setting a personal-best in a ninth-place finisher in the weight throw (51 feet, 8 ¼ inches).
Sam Houston went 1-2 in the pole vault, led by senior Hannah Callaway, who made her Bearkat debut with a first-place result of 12 feet, 8 ¼ inches. She was followed up by sophomore Margaret Lasalle at 12 feet, 2 ½ inches.
In the triple jump, Tristyn Allen converted 39 feet, 5 inches, for a first-place result.

Sam Houston will split up across the country next weekend. The Bearkats will spend time at the 13th-annual Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio, as well as Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational (Notre Dame, Indiana) and the New Mexico Classic & Multi in Albuquerque, N.M.
