HUNTSVILLE – A two-week road trip for the Sam Houston State Bearkats begins on Saturday when they kick off four straight games away from Johnson Coliseum with a clash at Idaho.
The game can be followed on live stats or by following @BearkatsMBB on Twitter. It will also be aired on Pluto TV and streamed on WatchBigSky.com.
The Bearkats, who are featuring nine newcomers this year, have opened up the season with a pair of wins but will get their stiffest test of the young season against the Vandals, the preseason favorites in the Big Sky. Idaho dropped a 69-62 decision in Huntsville a year ago, but returns all five starters from a 19-win team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIT, a run that included an opening-round win over a familiar Bearkat foe, Stephen F. Austin.
Through two games the Kats have been paced by returners John Dewey III and Christopher Galbreath Jr. with 13.0 points per game apiece, while they have gotten solid early contributions from Marcus Harris and Cameron Delaney. Harris picked up his first career double-double on Saturday against Hardin-Simmons while Delaney is averaging 10.5 points and nine rebounds per game in two contests.
Meanwhile Idaho has three players of their own averaging in double figures, led by preseason all-Big Sky selection Victor Sanders (21.5 ppg) and Nate Sherwood (21.0 ppg), while Brayon Blake is averaging 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest through two games.
The trip to Idaho opens up the Bearkats' longest road trip of the year, one which includes just four games but spans 10 days away from home as they will travel to Anchorage, Alaska on Sunday to take part in the Great Alaska Shootout. They will kick off the Shootout on Wednesday against Central Michigan.
SERIES vs IDAHO
This will be Sam Houston's second trip ever to Moscow where they will be looking to get their first-ever win. Sam Houston leads the all-time series 2-1 with Saturday being a return game from the Vandals' trip to Huntsville a year ago when the Kats picked up a 69-62 win behind 17 points from Aurimas Majauskas and 12 from Torry Butler.
