HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State soccer kicks off the 2017-18 athletic calendar at 4 p.m. and today, we finalize introducing you to the program's eight incoming freshman.
The unit looks to help the Bearkats make their return to the Southland Conference Tournament for the eighth time in nine years. The group includes three midfielders, three defenders and two forwards while six of the eight hail from Texas and the other two coming from Tulsa, Okla., and Phoenix, Ariz.
Our final freshman is No. 20, Riley Kaderli. She played at Klein High School under Coach Adrian Ramirez. Kaderli was a three-time first-team all-district honoree and was named team captain her senior year. The Spring native helped Klein to a district championship twice including the regional semi-finals in 2016.
Why did you choose to further your soccer career at Sam Houston?
“I loved the coaching staff and I want to major in special education which Sam Houston has one of the best programs. Plus people brought dogs to the game and that was a huge plus. Hahaha.”
How would you describe your strengths on the field?
“I'm more of a physical player that isn't afraid to head the ball and get into tackles!”
What are some of your hobbies outside of soccer?
“I love hanging with my friends and family … and of course my dogs. I also love exploring places and nature so I like to go on hikes and see things!!”
Do you have any pregame superstitions?
“I usually just go with the flow and don't worry about having to do the exact same thing before every game.”
What are your personal goals entering the season?
“As a freshman my goal is to just be able to adapt well to the new environment and work hard and hopefully make a positive impact.”
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“I want to visit everywhere in the world but if I had to choose one place right now I think maybe I would choose Germany because the culture of the place really interests me.”
Who is your favorite soccer player and why?
“Carly Lloyd because of the heart and passion she has and shows for the game.”
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
“Outgoing, interesting and fun”
What does a perfect day look like to you?
“I'm more of a simple person so honestly just sleeping in then hanging with some friends and family that I love … and swimming with my doggies!”

“I'd definitely be in the move Girls Trip because it was wild and looks like a lot of fun and I like to have a good time.”

“Hmm. This is kind of tough because I have literally only played soccer my whole life except when I did swim, dance and tumbling. I guess maybe I would have stayed with swimming or something.”

“I really like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and 'oldies' like that. I also really love George Strait and country music too.”
Where is the most interesting place you've visited and why?

“Traveling the world. I really want to travel everywhere and see what the world has to offer and get to see all the different cultures and vibes it has!”
