HUNTSVILLE – After opening up camp in late July and with 10 practices in the books, the Sam Houston State Bearkats will line up for its first scrimmage of the fall on Monday at Bowers Stadium.
The Kats have been up before the sun for the first third of camp, but will hold off until the 6 p.m. to kick off the first of three scrimmages that will lead into Sam Houston's August 27 season opener against Richmond.
Coach K.C. Keeler's crew has eased into its practice routine after kicking off on July 27, getting into pads on August 1 for their morning sessions before going into team and position meetings in the afternoons.
Monday's scrimmage is expected to consist of 70-80 plays with the Kats in full pads for the duration. The evening will consist of a number of situations and special teams. The team will then have Tuesday off before hitting the field against on Wednesday morning and working up to its second scrimmage on Sunday, August 13.
They will have one more scrimmage on August 17 that will include the team's pregame routine before beginning to move into its game week schedule in preparation for the Spiders.
