Chatting With Chappy -- 26 September 2017
Going into this week, I am extremely sore. After a hard week of training, we hosted two home conference games this past weekend. On Friday night, we pulled out a 2-0 win against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. I will admit that it was a very tough game, but I was very happy that we came out with a win. Saturday's recovery practice was very light but beneficial. We did lots of stretching and passing sequences.
On Sunday afternoon, we took a tough 1-0 loss to Houston Baptist. Although we had multiple chances, we were unable to slip one past our opponent's goalie. It was one of our more challenging games because we kept up with the other team for the most part and had our fair share of chances.
Waking up on Monday morning was extremely rough; I really felt the effects of both games. I am very grateful for our athletic trainer Sandy (who honestly puts more hours in than anyone in the program). She was available for treatment on Monday – which really helped relieve some of my soreness. I am looking forward to another week of good training and traveling this upcoming weekend to take on Lamar and McNeese.
Having the recruits for the weekend was lots of fun! I remember how excited I was to step on campus for my official visit and meet the rest of the commits. Although Friday was a bit boring for the commits, Saturday was much more exciting. After the recovery practice, we headed back to the dorms and started getting ready for the 1st home football game. I was equally as excited to dress up, tailgate, and experience my 1st Sam Houston football game. We all put on our orange shirts, jean shorts/skirts, and cowboy boots. My bathroom was full of girls straightening/curling their hair, doing their makeup, or applying last minute perfume/deodorant. We took lots of pictures, ate good food, and hung out at the baseball tailgate until game time. I hope it was a good/exciting memory that all the recruits will remember.
As for school, we have our first grade-check of the year. I am learning that the same studying methods I used in high school are not as beneficial in college. I am going to have to switch up my way of doing things so that I am successful in the long run. I have been trying to stay on top of all my homework/essays/projects. So far, I am successful with being on top of things. Aside from school, it has been tough being away from home. I hate missing out on family activities, my brother's games, and homecooked meals (my mom's chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy). Thankfully, my family has been able to attend a lot of my games; they also travel to Texas a lot for my youngest brother's soccer games.
