The Kats dropped their first five matches of the season against a tough slate at both the Texas A&M Invitational and the Chattanooga Classic, but picked up their first win of the season in the tournament finale in Chattanooga, sweeping past ULM behind 16 kills from Brooke White and 12 from Jordyn Vaughn.
With just six matches this season under their belt, that duo is already showing why each earned preseason all-conference honors, tying for fourth in the league with an average of 3.21 kills per set. Each is also nearing a career milestone with White needing just 25 kills, and Vaughn 34, to reach 1,000 for their careers.
Amanda Gooch's steady play earned her a nod to the all-tournament team last week at the Chattanooga Classic She hit a team-best .312 in the three-match event and averaged 2.44 kills per set. Taylor Cunningham currently leads the team with 0.89 blocks per set for the season and the Kats sport five players averaging better than 2.00 digs per set, led by White's 2.68 average.
Meanwhie, the Bobcats are off to a 3-2 start after a strong showing last weekend, tying for first at the Xavier Tournament in Cincinnati. They dropped the opening match of the event to Western Michigan before following up with two wins on Saturday over Cincinnati and Xavier.
