Wallace claims SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO – Senior Madison Wallace was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, per a release from league officials on Monday afternoon.
It is the second time this season Wallace has been named the SLC's Defensive Player of the Week, and the sixth time a Bearkat has claimed a weekly honor.
Wallace turned in a huge week in helping the Kats to a pair of five-set road wins, running their win streak to nine in a row and keeping them within one match of first place in the league. Since taking the libero jersey on Sept. 8, the Kats are 15-1 and she has surged to first in the SLC in league-only matches with 5.32 digs per set.
The Pasadena, Texas native averaged 7.50 digs per set in the wins last week, posting consecutive matches with more than 30 digs. She went for a career-high 38 digs in a win at A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday and almost matched it two days later with a 37-dig outing in a win at Houston Baptist. Those marks rank as the third and fifth most digs by a SLC player this season, and each rank in the top six single-match performances all-time at SHSU.
Her marks have the Kats ranked 22nd in the country in digs per set as a team (17.54 dps), and she ranks 87th individually in digs per set.
Wallace and the Bearkats currently sit at 19-5 overall and 11-1 in the Southland Conference, one game back of league-leading Stephen F. Austin with four matches to play on the year. They will wrap up the home slate on Tuesday night vs New Orleans at Johnson Coliseum with the Bearkats' senior class of Wallace, Taylor Cunningham and Jaclyn Ward being honored after the match.
The Kats will then close out the season with three road matches against a trio of teams ranked in the top four in the SLC standings, beginning Thursday night against SFA in Nacogdoches.
