Junior guard Jaylonn Walker currently paces the Kats in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game while also ranking second in the league with 3.2 steals per game.
She is one of three Kats averaging double figures in points per game, joined by Jenniffer Oramas (13.2 ppg) and freshman Amber Leggett (10.9 ppg). Senior Lydia Baxter enters the game having registered double-doubles in each of her past three games and currently ranks fifth in the SLC with 7.4 rebounds per contest.
SERIES vs TCU
Sam Houston is 4-14 all-time against the Horned Frogs with the last win coming in the 1984-85 season. That win was the second time the Kats had won in Fort Worth and capped a four-game win streak for SHSU in the series. Since then, TCU has reeled off 14 consecutive wins, all coming since the Bearkats transitioned to Division I.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Lydia Baxter's 16-point, 14-rebound performance on Friday vs ORU was her third straight double-double of the season, pushing her into the all-time top 10 in career rebounds at SHSU. She enters Saturday's game at TCU with 498 career rebounds and needs two more boards to become just the ninth player in SHSU history to accumulate 500 rebounds.
- The Kats' win at Louisiana marked the second straight non-conference road win for the Bearkats, the first time the team has won consecutive true road games in non-conference play since wins at Centenary and Grambling early in the 2009-10 season. They have not won three consecutive true road games in non-conference play since defeating Baylor, Prairie View and Jackson State in the 1989-90 season.
TAKEAWAYS FROM 73-62 LOSS vs ORAL ROBERTS
- Sam Houston was plagued by a rough second quarter in its loss to ORU when the Golden Eagles outscored them 32-11. The Kats led 11-9 after a quarter of play and outscored ORU 40-32 in the second half. SHSU allowed ORU to hit 11/18 (61.1 percent) from the field in the quarter, while the Golden Eagles nailed six of their nine 3-point baskets in the second period.
- Lydia Baxter turned in her third straight double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. She is averaging 14.6 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in that three-game stretch, while hitting .571 (16/28) from the floor and 75.0 (12/16) from the foul line.
