HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats will try to get back on the winning side of the ledger on Saturday when they head to Houston Baptist for a meeting with the Huskies at Sharp Gym.

The Kats are coming off a heartbreaking loss on Wednesday night at Nicholls, one which saw them erase a double-digit lead in the second half and tie the game twice in the final minutes before the Colonels finished with a one-point edge. The loss dropped Sam Houston 1.5 games back of the first-place Colonels with four games left on the league slate.
Entering Saturday, the Bearkats can clinch a berth in their 21st Southland Conference Tournament, needing a win over the Huskies and a loss by McNeese to punch their ticket to Katy in March.
Marcus Harris had 23 points and Christopher Galbreath Jr. had 16 against the Colonels, while John Dewey picked up a double-double with a career-best 12 boards in the game.
Meanwhile, HBU snapped a four-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 77-70 win over Northwestern State, their second win in league play. David Carraher finished with 23 points and nine boards in the win and has scored in double digits in 10 of his last 11 games.
SERIES vs HOUSTON BAPTIST
Sam Houston leads the all-time series with HBU by a 17-10 margin after a 13-point win in Huntsville in the first meeting this year. But the Huskies had narrowed that gap by taking two of three meetings last year. The Huskies took both regular-season meetings in 2016-17 by double-digit margins before the Kats got their revenge with a 63-59 win in the quarterfinals of the SLC Tournament. The Kats are 7-4 vs HBU since the Huskies became Division I in 2012-13 with the teams splitting six meetings.
