HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State football team held its annual Pro Day on Monday with more than 20 NFL teams on hand to evaluate the Bearkats' available talent prior to April's NFL Draft.
With scouts and executives on campus from nearly each NFL organization, six of the Kats' top prospects from the 2017 senior class all had the opportunity to showcase their skills. The standout of the day was defensive lineman P.J. Hall, who graded out highly in all categories.
All participants took part in a variety of tests and drills, similar to what is done at the NFL Combine. The running drills all took place on the turf at Bowers Stadium while measurements, lifts and jumps were held in the Ron Randleman Strength & Fitness Center.
Hall, a four-time all-American for the Bearkats, measured in at just over 6-0 and at 308 pounds and then wowed the scouts with a 38” vertical jump and as low as a 4.74 40-yard dash. Hall also totaled 36 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press.
Two-time Walter Payton Award winner Jeremiah Briscoe was on hand and measured in, but did not work out due to an injury. Others on hand included running back Corey Avery, linebacker Justin Johnson, wide receiver Yedidiah Louis and safety Joshua Price.
Johnson turned in 23 reps on the bench while Price had 22, along with a 36” vertical leap and a 10-06 broad jump. Louis clocked in a 4.66 40-yard dash and his 4.19 short shuffle run was the best among those in attendance.
The 2018 NFL Draft is set to begin on Thursday, April 26 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and will conclude Saturday, April 28.
