HUNTSVILLE – After three wins on the road last week, the Sam Houston State Bearkats return to the friendly confines of Don Sanders Stadium this week for four of five games, beginning Tuesday night when they host the Baylor Bears.
The Kats will follow up their second meeting of the season with the Bears by traveling north to take on UT Arlington on Wednesday in a game that was originally scheduled for two weeks ago, but was pushed back due to inclement weather.
First pitch for both games is set for 6:30 p.m. with Tuesday's game at The Don to be aired on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app with Randy McIlvoy on the call. Wednesday's game at UTA can also be watched ($) by visiting UTAMavs.com. Live stats and updates on @BearkatsBSB on Twitter will also be available for fans to follow along with each game.
Sam Houston currently sits atop the Southland Conference after reeling off 11 straight games to open up league play before Sunday's loss in the series finale at Nicholls. The Kats have won seven of their last nine games overall and will be looking to sweep the season series from the Bears for the first time since 2014.
The Kats held Baylor to just two hits in a 7-2 win in Waco on March 13, but the Bears recovered the following weekend to win their biggest series of the year, taking two of three from No. 8 Texas Tech. But things have not gone as swimmingly for Baylor since that weekend against the Red Raiders and they will come into Huntsville having lost seven of its last eight games, including a sweep over the weekend at the hands of the Texas Longhorns.
Meanwhile, the UTA is coming off a weekend where it dropped two of three games at Louisiana. The Mavs, like Sam Houston, will take on a Big 12 opponent on Tuesday when they travel to Fort Worth to battle TCU. The Mavs have had their fair share of games against Southland foes, holding a 5-3 record against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian.
