The Sam Houston track and field program will host a walk-on tryout informational meeting on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at 3:30 pm in the Lowman Student Center Theater.
 
Tryouts will be held Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 25 and 26 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium. Cuts will be made upon completion of Day 1. Those not cut will be invited to Day 2.
 
To participate in the tryout, students must attend the informational meeting, where an Assumption of Risks form will be signed.

The walk-on standards below are the minimum times and marks necessary to participate in the tryout. You will not be able to tryout if you do not meet the minimum requirements. Please review these standards before proceeding with the following action steps.
 
To participate, you must:
  1. Complete and submit an SHSU Athletics Physical Form to the athletic training staff. Only health examinations performed by a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or medical doctor (MD) will be accepted. Examinations by nurse practitioners and/or chiropractors will not be accepted.
  2. Provide Proof of Health Insurance to the athletic training staff. A photocopy of both sides of your card is acceptable.
  3. Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  4. Complete the online Tryout Registration Form. Please DO NOT complete the registration form until steps 1-3 have been completed. Registration closes on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 11:59 pm CST.
  5. All participants will be required to (a) provide proof of full COVID immunization (current date must be at least 14 days after the second dosage) or (b) printed proof of a negative COVID test within a week of day 1 of the tryout (no later than Wednesday, August 18th). All participants must be fully immunized or receive a negative rapid test result to participate in the tryout.
Sprint and/or hurdle times must be reported using fully automatic timing (F.A.T.). Hand times and/or relay splits will not be accepted. All times and marks must be verifiable through MileSplit, TFFRS, or any other reputable track and field records database, and will be reviewed by the coaching staff.
 
If any of the above mentioned steps are not completed before Day 1 of the tryout, you will be unable to participate.

  • If selected, times and marks will be considered for athletic aid but is not guaranteed.
