
Cunningham Sweeps SLC Weekly Awards

FRISCO – For the second time this season Taylor Cunningham has snagged Southland Conference Player of the Week, but this time swept both offensive and defensive honors by herself according to a release from league officials.
Cunningham continues to do it all for the Bearkats, and at a very high level. The senior middle blocker was unstoppable in two more Sam Houston wins this week, helping the Kats open up league play 2-0 and run their overall win streak to six in a row.
She committed just three attack errors on 67 swings (.463) with an average of 4.86 kills per set for the week, while also adding 1.29 blocks and 3.00 digs per set. She went for 21 kills with just two errors on 41 swings (.463) in a 3-1 win over McNeese on Thursday, finishing just two kills shy of her career high set earlier this season. Those 21 scores including eight kills in the clinching fourth set and she also added 16 kills and three blocks for the match for her fifth double-double this year.
Two days later she slammed home 13 more scores with just one misfire on 26 swings (.462) against Lamar, adding five more digs and six blocks. She enters this week's match at UIW needing just seven more kills to reach 1,000 for her career.
For this season Cunningham leads the SLC with 3.54 kills per set while also ranking fourth in the SLC in hitting percentage. The Huntsville native also ranks fifth in blocks per set (1.09) and is 13th in digs (3.17 dps).
