FRISCO – Sam Houston State sprinter Chris Jefferson was named the Southland Conference track athlete of the week on Wednesday, according to an announcement from league officials.
Jefferson kicked off his senior indoor season in style at the Ted Nelson Invitational, winning both the 60M and 200M in College Station.
His 200M time set a new school record, and after one weekend of the season is the fastest 200M time in the country, just .01 seconds ahead of teammate Jo'Vaughn Martin.
A qualifier for the NCAA meet a year ago, Jefferson also took first in the 60M with a time of 6.71, a mark that is the top mark in the SLC and the 12th fastest in the country.
The Bearkats will be back in action this weekend in Houston with multi-event athletes taking part in the Fast Track Invitational & Multi. Jefferson and the rest of the Bearkat men and women will hit the track in full once again beginning January 25 in Houston at the Houston Invite & Multi.
