HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston State soccer team will be playing for seeding position in the Southland Conference Tournament Friday when Stephen F. Austin comes to Pritchett Field for the regular-season finale.
The Bearkats (7-9-1 overall, 5-4-1 in SLC) have already clinched a berth in the postseason tournament after more than doubling their win total from a season ago. Sam Houston State can finish no lower than the seventh seed and as high as the sixth with a win over the Ladyjacks (7-10-0, 4-6-0) and a loss by McNeese (10-7-0, 6-4-0) in Beaumont against regular-season champion Lamar (12-6-0, 9-1-0).
Sam Houston State is coming off to close losses on the road at Incarnate Word on Oct. 25 and Abilene Christian on Oct. 27.
The Cardinals scored a golden goal in double overtime to steal a 3-2 victory in which the Bearkats dominated the attack by outshooting UIW on goal 7-3. The Wildcats broke a scoreless tie 10 minutes in the second half to down SHSU 1-0.
Friday is also Senior Night as the Bearkats honor Katy Johnson, Hannah Dupin, Carlota Suarez-Crespo, Lexi Bullard, Acacia Shepardson and Josee Jacobellis before the 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
