Kats stretched to five at SLU

HAMMOND, La. – The Sam Houston State Bearkats were stretched to five sets once again, but held off Southeastern Louisiana for a 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-27, 15-12) win on Saturday afternoon at the University Center.

 

The win, coupled with Central Arkansas' win over A&M-Corpus Christi in Conway, Ark., secured the Kats (16-12, 12-4 SLC) as the No. 2 seed in next week's Southland Conference Tournament. SHSU will be the opening match of the tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday, getting a rematch with the Lady Lions (14-16, 8-8 SLC) who enter the event as the No. 7 seed.

 

The Kats hit .208 for the match and were led by Ashley Lewis' 19 kills and 10 digs. Breanne Chausse hit .333 for the match by scoring 15 of her 30 swings, while Samantha Rodgers and Kaira Hunnicutt each had nine kills each.

 

Morgan Janda finished with 36 assists and eight digs, while Madilyn Miles had 21 assists and five digs. Addison Miller racked up another 31 digs to her season total, going over 30 digs for the third time this year.
