Bearkats Bowlers off to strong start

The Sam Houston women's bowling team got off to a great start on Friday at the Hawk Classic hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Kats posted a 5-0 record and are currently in 1st place following the first five games of competition. They have a 244 pin lead over second place Arkansas State.
“This was once again another good opening day to a tournament for us,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “We picked up a couple of wins against ranked opponents and have once against positioned ourselves nicely after the first day. The key for us will be to come back out and repeat this same level of success on Saturday.”
They opened the day with a 63-pin win against Fairleigh Dickenson and followed that up knocking off Caldwell by 165 pins. Against No. 23 Youngstown, the Kats led from the opening game and claimed a 183-pin victory. They also led wire-to-wire against No. 8 North Carolina A&T. The Kats closed out their day with a win against Duquesne, overcoming a 21 pin deficit in after three games.
Action will continue on Saturday with five traditional matches.
