HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats knocked off the rust of Christmas break in style on Monday evening, rolling past Wiley College by a 102-52 margin at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The win was the fifth in the last six games for the Bearkats (7-4, 2-0 SLC) and closes out not only the 2019 calendar year, but the 2019-20 non-conference slate.
Amber Leggett and
Faith Cook led the Kats with 16 points apiece, and were followed by
Kaylee Jefferson who finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
Jaylonn Walker and
Jenniffer Oramas each picked up a dozen points.
Sam Houston turned it on early, outscoring the Wildcats (3-7) by a 24-11 margin in the opening quarter before going into the break up 60-27 after forcing 18 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
The Kats will now get a pair of home games in league play this week, starting Thursday night when they host McNeese at Johnson Coliseum.
