Zirkel earns SLC academic honor

FRISCO - Sam Houston State sophomore Austin Zirkel has been named to the Southland Conference all-academic second team, the league announced Thursday morning.
The Medina native has a 3.88 grade-point average as a criminal justice major with a minor in military science and psychology. Zirkel was a third-team All-SLC selection as well after finishing 13th at the conference's cross country championships in Conway, Ark., on Nov. 1.
Zirkel just missed a top-30 performance for the Bearkats at the NCAA South Central Regional on Nov. 15 in Fayetteville, Ark. He finished 31st with a time of 31:18.8.
