Kats host Louisiana Tech Sunday

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State men's basketball team returns to Johnson Coliseum Sunday to face Louisiana Tech in a rematch of last season's game in Ruston, Louisiana.
The Bearkats (4-4) are coming off a 90-86 double-overtime loss on the road at UTRGV. Sam Houston State lost a 10-point lead in the second half and a four-point advantage with 1:31 to go in the first overtime to fall to 1-3 on the road this season.
The Kats shot only 34.7 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from behind the arc.
This will be the fifth meeting between Sam Houston State and Louisiana Tech. The Bearkats are 0-4 against the Bulldogs dating back to the 1967-68 season. The only time the two teams have met in Huntsville, Louisiana Tech won 95-72 in 1990-91.
SHSU is 3-0 at Johnson Coliseum this season and has a five-game home nonconference winning streak dating back to last year. Since the start of the 2016-17 season, the Kats are 43-6 (.878) at home.
Senior forward Kai Mitchell leads SHSU with 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Zach Nutall is close behind at 14.0 points per contest.
Junior guard Demarkus Lampley (9.4) and senior guard Chad Bowie (8.0) are close to giving the Bearkats four players averaging double digits in scoring this season.
