HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats dominated singles play and pulled out a win on the road on Sunday afternoon, taking down Louisiana by a 4-2 score at Cajun Courts.
The Bearkats (4-3) just missed pulling out the doubles point, but took four on the singles courts to take down the Ragin' Cajuns (4-3).
Louisiana held a 2-0 advantage in the match after pulling out the doubles point due to Dana Radovanovic and Floriane Picaut finishing off Sahaja Yamalapalli and Isidora Zivkovic on the No. 2 doubles court to secure the opening point, and Marina Garcia taking a point at No. 3 singles.
But Zivkovic responded with a straight-set win over Picaut and Lusine Chobanyan followed with 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) win over Clara Mantaux at No. 2 to even things up. Then, after Roos Gerritsen finished off Ai Noa Fabre by a 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 6-2 score, Yamalapalli closed the match out with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Hoda Habib on the top court for the clincing point.
The Kats will now go on to Ruston, La., for a makeup match with Louisiana Tech at 1:00 p.m.
