Three Kats named academic all-SLC

FRISCO – The Sam Houston State Bearkat football team picked up some more postseason honors on Friday as three players were named to the 2019 Southland Football All-Academic team, per a release from league officials.

Tyler Edwards and Hunter Brown, along with Matt McRobert were all named to the team, each making it for the first time.

Both Edwards and Brown were each captains on the 2019 squad, all three players earning all-SLC nod for their exploits on the field. Edwards started all 12 games on the offensive line for the Bearkats and was a third team all-SLC choice. He is currently on pace to complete his masters degree in kinesiology where he holds a 3.75 GPA.

Brown, meanwhile, was a second team all-SLC selection after finishing second on the roster with 64 tackles in his senior campaign. An August 2018 graduate with a bachelors in kinesiology, Brown graduated in December with his master's degree in construction management while finishing with a 4.00 GPA in that pursuit.

McRobert was an automatic selection onto the academic all-SLC team after being named a first team all-SLC punter at the conclusion of the season. He was later named a second team all-America selection by both the AP and STATS FCS and was a finalist for the FCS Punter of the Year award from the Augusta Sports Council (Ray Guy Award) after averaging an SLC-best 44.3 yards per punt.

A native of Australia who already holds a bachelors degree from his home country, he is also on pace to complete his master's degree, holding a 3.20 GPA in Sport Management.
