STETSON, Fla. — The Sam Houston State softball team fell a run short of rallying to tie Boston University in a 2-1 loss to close out the Stetson Leadoff Classic Sunday morning.
The Bearkats finished the tournament with a 2-3 record with both wins coming against George Mason on Friday and Saturday.
Senior
Karina Sanchez (0-1) was solid in the circle for SHSU. The Terriers (5-0) managed two unearned runs in the third thanks to a couple of fielding errors, but Sanchez only gave up six hits and struck out four without issuing any free passes in six innings.
The Bearkats cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth when senior
Tiffany Thompson led off with an infield single and junior
Brooke Malia walked. Junior
Sheridan Fisher hit a one-out single to center field to bring home Thompson.
Freshman
Emily Telg and sophomore
Regan Dunn also hit safely for the Kats.
Thompson and Dunn were named to the all-tournament team.
Sam Houston State returns to Huntsville to host Houston at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the home opener at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
