HUNTSVILLE — Louisiana Tech scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to hand Sam Houston State a 4-3 setback in the final game of the Bearkat Invitational Sunday afternoon.
Sam Houston State (9-12) rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings on an RBI single by junior
Sheridan Fisher.
Louisiana Tech (5-15) scored two runs in the top of the ninth, and the Bearkats fell just short of a another rally by scoring a run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by senior
Megan McDonald.
The Bearkats struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior
Tiffany Thompson singled with one out and stole second base before coming around to score in an RBI single up the middle by senior
Hunter Ervin.
The Lady Techsters got a two-out rally going in the seventh to take the lead when Zoe Hicks hit a two-run double off reliever
Karina Sanchez, who also gave up a two-run home run to Mary Terral in the ninth to fall to 2-4 on the season.
Junior
Darby Fitzpatrick got the start in the circle for the Bearkats. She tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings before giving way to Sanchez in the fifth after running into trouble.
Fitzpatrick also shut down the Lady Techsters in the ninth when she came back in to pitch an inning with no outs following the go-ahead home run.
Sam Houston State hosts Texas Southern Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
