Carter named to WBCA 30 Under 30 list

ATLANTA – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday the WBCA Thirty Under 30, presented by Marriott Bonvoy and Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment honorees for the 2019-20 season with Sam Houston State assistant coach Kira Carter landing on the list.

The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.

Carter just completed her second season on the Bearkat staff, helping Sam Houston to win 35 games in that span after the program had won just seven games in the two seasons prior to this staff's arrival.

She came to Huntsville after a one-year stint at Milwaukee where she helped guide the Panthers to 21 wins – the second highest single-season total in program history – and a berth in the WNIT. That came after one year at Missouri S&T where she assisted in nearly all aspects of the program.

Prior to her time with the Miners, Carter spent two years at Wabash Valley College where she helped the Warriors to a Region XXIV championship and an appearance in the NJCAA Sweet 16.

A standout on the court during her playing days, Carter started her playing career at Oakland before transferring to Wabash Valley College where she earned all-conference and all-region honors. She then finished her collegiate career at Coastal Carolina where she started 47 games for the Chanticleers.
